Northland Power announced July 4 that it has signed a Long-Term Enhanced Dispatch Contract (LTEDC) with the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) for Northland’s 120MW cogeneration facility located in Iroquois Falls. The contract, which took effect July 1, expires in 2021 and replaces the facility’s previous contract with the Ontario Electricity Financial Corporation… by Northern Ontario Business.
Raízen Energia, Brazil’s largest producer of sugar cane ethanol, is planning to scale up production at a new “second-generation” biofuel plant, in a move that will sharply increase the productivity of one of the country’s most important industries. The company says that it will increase production more than fivefold within two years, making the new technology competitive with traditional ethanol and harnessing potentially millions of tonnes of plant material that currently goes to waste… by Joe Leahy.
A Hay River contractor has invented a system that will make it more convenient for homeowners to use wood pellets to heat their houses. Most importantly, Robert Chenard said it will eliminate having to carry 40-pound bags of wood pellets and having to go outside for the pellets.
